Have you ever found yourself wanting to go to a jazz club in Hobart and discovered there isn’t one? That’s exactly what happened to Antony, so he made it happen. That’s right, he made a jazz club (thank goodness for people like Antony).

Held bimonthly at Ivory Bar, the Jazzivory nights started in July and have featured the Jamie Pregnell Trio, Housework (Antony’s own band) and Sweet Potato playing to a full house every time. And yes, you can sometimes get a Hamond Organ thrown in for good measure. Sexy, sexy times.

The nights are planned to be pretty low key so people can still catch up or have a jive if they want, with the bands play right on the floor by the bar so the vibe is intimate.

You can catch the last Jazzivory for the year this Friday night, with two sets from the Jamie Pregnell Trio performing original music, improvisations and jazz standards in a contemporary format.

Guitarist/Composer Jamie Pregnell has recently returned from overseas where he was selected to attend the Banff international workshop in jazz and creative music in June this year. Jamie was able to study with some of the top jazz musicians from around the world and has begun to make plans to record new music from his experience overseas. Upon returning home he has formed The Jamie Pregnell Trio that features Alf Jackson on Drums, and Hamish Houston on Bass.

Next year’s Jazzivory kicks off again on Jan 25th, with 2013 set to feature such Hobart jazz awesomeness as Mia Palencia and, dare we say it, an octet.

Formerly known as My Girlfriend's Sister, Chase City have built themselves a solid reputation in a very short period of time with their indie pop flavoured music.

Their brand new single released this week called 'Colours' makes me think of summery days full of festivals and cider. Fun.

Considering their bio says "Chase City not only plays everything that speaks summer, partying and good times but has the energy to back it up" - it's likely to be the first time i've actually believed a band bio to be true. Oh the shock of it.

Partie Traumatic is an electro-dance dubstep act by Hobart producer Mathew Hislop.

A prolific producer, Hislop has released both his debut album, Galaxies, as well as an EP, Visions, in the last 12 months.

'Hallows Eve' is the brand new single from his next EP, Revelation, due for release in November.

Sam and Seth, front men of The Mornings begin a three week tour of intimate shows along the East Coast this week, aptly titled the "Finding Friends" tour.

You could liken the two piece tour to a warm up run for when the full band makes it way across the water for a national tour that includes Festival of the Sun (NSW).

After a long winter break, hibernating and recording up the mountain they've released the first single from their forthcoming album, titled 'Smoke & Lasers', just in time for the tour.

Have a peep at the guys performing it in the beautiful surrounds of Fern Tree, as part of the Down to Earth video series.

On his website it says "Something like if Adorno and Orwell had a kid with ADHD that spent all day playing Xbox".

I prefer to describe Linc as a man with a large collection of harmonicas (why did I not know there were so many options before now), a natural storyteller and the best beard in Hobart.

He's been performing longer than I've been paying attention, which means he's got the craft down to a pretty fine art. Seeing him perform live with any one of his various incantations of a band is always a foot stomping, whiskey swilling affair, full of energy.

He launches his new album Resonation this Wednesday night at the Republic Bar. Get around it. And get one of the limited edition bone coloured vinyl copies of the album while you're at it.

Four likeable lads with cheery dispositions, including a front man with ridiculous amounts of performance experience (we're talking musical theatre and singing since the age of five here), and twin guitarist and drummer - sounds like fun yes?

Left of Centaur haven't been in existence for much more than a year but they're already winning hearts with their pop-rock tunes that Alessandro belts out like nobody's business. Don't be fooled by their film clip for 'Everyday is Sunday'. They assure me they are not a novelty band.

Their debut EP is now available for free download from www.reverbnation.com/leftofcentaur.

I captured three of the guys performing 'Be a Man' in the Edge Radio studio recently.

Can Tasmanian indie outfit Enola Fall overcome the nigh-on-insurmountable tyranny of distance to record their latest EP?

Good question. Do you have $10,000?

Following in the kickstarting, crowdfunding, Pozible, I'm-throwing-my-money-at-worthwhile-projects trend, Enola Fall are trying to secure $10,000 to record their next EP with Lachlan Mitchell, the producer behind the Jezabel's successful releases.

The pledge rewards range from an unreleased "E-Sides" EP, to hand printed tees, to personalised songs, to private gigs and intimate dinners cooked by the band themselves, and their pitch video gave me a pretty good giggle when it was launched yesterday.

Have a listen to one of the tracks from the E-Sides EP, 'Hospital', watch the pitch video, then head to their Kickstart page and be a part of something good.

Besides, if you don't dig deep and help them reach the $10,000 target, my desire to have my own song written for me won't come true.

And quite frankly, there's no-one I'd rather write me a song than Enola Fall.

In the same way that I still like to call The Nation Blue, The Dacios and Ivy St. 'Tasmanian' because they originated on home soil, I still call Jay Fraser Tasmanian even though he "Left Australia to learn how to play. Stayed in London to learn how to survive".

Don't hold it against me - he says he's coming home next year.

For those interested in his goings-on, he's made a departure from his usual solo performance to start a new band - AFFA David.

Check out their first single 'Bull's chorus', then hassle him when he comes home.

ELFA (a.k.a. Emma Louisa Frances Anglesey) released her debut album this month, with the help of a Whirl Records deal.

The album was produced and mixed by Paul Greene (James Blundell, Hirst and Greene, Ghostwriters, Spy Vs Spy), mastered by William Bowden (Gotye, Kylie Monogue) and the demos were recorded with New York based bass player and producer Jeff Hill (Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Joan Baez, Joan as Policewoman, Frally).

Bike is the first single from the album, which is being launched this Thursday at the Poobah amid rumours of an ARIA nominated artist opening the night.

“The song Bike was inspired while riding in New York City, over bridges and through tunnels late one night after hanging out with one of my music heroes Sia Furler” she says.

Turns out she’s a woman after my own heart.
